A stye is a red tender bump, which can look like a boil or a pimple, that usually goes away on its own. It’s a bacterial infection involving one or more of the small glands near the base of your eyelashes or on the inner part of the eyelid. They are often filled with pus and can be quite painful. You can treat a stye at home with warm compresses and good hygiene.

Apply a warm, wet compress to your eyelid for 5–10 minutes, 3–6 times a day

Wash your hands often

Wash your face and eye area daily

Don’t touch or squeeze the stye

Don’t wear eye makeup or contact lenses until the area has healed
